Why this list matters
If you only picture the homeowner, you will only tend that one reading. But your company keeps a single public record, and every person who needs to decide something about you reads it. The candidate, the supplier, the buyer and the lender are all in the same queue.
The candidate
Somebody saw a posting, or a friend works there, and now wants to know if it is a good place to work. The answer decides whether they apply, and how they sit down in the interview if they do. A current employee runs it too, from the other side, when deciding whether to stay.
A tough culture does not have to hide. A strong one should draw the people who want its standard and put off the ones who do not, and the public record is where both find out which is which.
The manufacturer or partner
A manufacturer deciding which contractors to stand behind is attaching its own name to yours. It reads how you install, how you service and how you treat a customer after payment. The same applies in the other direction when a contractor weighs a supplier or a software vendor.
For companies whose buyers are other businesses, Power100 draws the tracked questions from a different bank, such as whether a company is the right partner for a buyer's business.
The commercial buyer
On the commercial side, Greg Cummings describes buyers starting to use AI agents to help choose which bids to take. A long relationship can count for less than it did, because the first read may now come from software with no memory of the jobs you finished.
The point for this guide is that the first reader may be a machine, and a machine can only use what has been written down and published where it can be found.
The acquirer
Someone looking at buying a company knows exactly which one it is. The search is part of diligence. Does the business stand on its own, would it survive without its founder, and does what the seller says about the culture match what employees say.
The bank
A lender reads the financials, then reads the same public record everyone else can read. The name is already on the application.
One record, many readers
None of these people asks who exists. Each is deciding whether to believe what they were told. A company does not get a separate record for customers, recruits, partners and lenders. It gets one, and all of them read it. That is the best argument for tending it on purpose.
